2024 recap
its been a while, hasn't it?
hey hey. its been a while - 440 days to be exact. lets catch up? lemme tell you what i’ve been up to :]
ultrarice
ultrarice has been through some stuff lol
we started off the year trying to figure out who would do our research. we spent the first half-ish of the year bouncing around co-founders to see if they could take over doing the research.
by may, i had put my foot down. it had been 1 year of ultrarice and we still hadn’t started our research. we had to learn which hills to die on and doing the research ourselves wasn’t one.
we ended up hiring an amazing researcher, aliyan, who has been working with us since july.
aliyan and i work together on the research, with him focusing more on the physical experiments and me with the data analysis. so far, we’ve (kinda) figured out how to do at home iron nutritional analysis.
we’re still having some issues getting the whole process down but progress is progress :]
working at a hospital
this summer, i started working at a psychiatric hospital. it is super fun!
in the summer i worked in one of the hospital’s department’s for in-patients. i connected to and met so many patients with different conditions and their families. it was such an amazing experience and was pretty emotional when i had to switch roles at the end of the summer.
in the school year, i switched to an out-patient role where i helped women with mammograms and ultrasounds. i learnt a lot more surrounding women’s health and breast cancer and got to make kits for biopsies, which was all super cool! in 2023, i spent some time with a gynecologist that specialised in endometriosis and ended up learning so much about endometriosis and PCOS so it was super cool to learn in depth about about another under-researched women health-issue.
writing my mcat
this august, i wrote the mcat (medical college admission test). it was 7-hours long and absolutely brutal.
i took the exam a year earlier than people typically take it in case i had to retake it.
when i got my exam marks back, i realised that even though i did well, my gut said i could do better. so i took the risk and applied to rewrite the exam in 2025.
lets see if my gut was right :]
a few things i got into this year:
i started 3d printing! i started small with keychains, cookie cutters, and figurines but recently got inspired to make a whole costume so we’ll see how that goes
building/fixing — i started building tables, beds, and dog toys (for the cutest dog in the world: mine), and this translated into me being the fixer of complex appliances in our house. from having to take apart our stove’s exhaust hood to fix an issue with the wiring to having to figure out and fix what was wrong with our motorised blinds, i have become the resident fixer and builder
hiking. psa; don’t hike in the winter unless you have spikes for your boots (talking from experience btw)
to keep my public speaking in check and to push myself out of my comfort zone in public speaking, i joined a toastmasters club
to help my bts 2025 reunion concert fund, i got a part-time job
got into doing “runs” — i did the foamfest 5k run/obstacle course with my friends and loved it so much that i already signed up to “run” a mud run/obstacle course in 2025!
after a week-long trip to cancun, mexico, i got really into travelling and am planning on going on a few next year. i learnt this year that life is truly short and even if you only have a week, you should do what you want. so thats the mentality i’m taking into travelling next year :]
album recs
my top 3 albums of the year
see you next year <3
